I am surprised that people do not understand the difference in power output from a diesel engine and a gasoline engine for a pickup truck.
A 2013 Ram pickup with the diesel engine is providing 850 ft lb of torque at the rear wheels. The 2013 Ram pickup with the gas engine has 400 ft lb of torque at the rear or less than half that of the diesel engine.
Comparing one company's diesel powered pickup with another company's gas engine is plain dumb. Sometime is better to keep you mouth closed and have people think you are stupid, than to open it and have them know it. Same applies to the OP.
I think you should take your own advice - the quoted horsepower figures are at the crankshaft with all accessories installed, not at the rear wheels....
Oh, and compare that 2013 Ram with 400 lb ft to an Ecoboost V6 and you'll see that the EB is a more powerful engine.
And, should we see a forced induction 5.0 V8 it most likely will have Diesel levels of torque. I suspect the reason we have not (rumors have it the 5.0 is designed for DI and turbo) is because if they offered it, the Diesel sales would shrink a huge amount over night.
