1968 Vette L-88 427 ci 425 hp, high 12s in quarter mile. (With headers, street slicks, mid-11s)
1988 Mustang 5 liter 220 hp low 14s (some basic mods high 12s)
The new Vette and Mustang are said to have well over 500 hp, yet with much better tires, they only beat the '68 Vette by a little.
There is something going on I don't understand.
The difference is gross and net HP.
A car of the same HP now-days would waste a car of the 60's of the same HP. In the 60's they checked engine HP without accessories to make it look better than it really was.
