Everyone to their own but after towing a 12'6" high 10k GVW fiver for ten years with a 5.9 Cummins with 235 HP 460 lb ft in front of a 4 spd auto, I think a much lower 6k TT behind 220 HP 420 lbft and a 8 spd auto would do just fine.
Most tt pull harder than the fifth wheels. Mine did and it was 6500# GVW and my 5er is 14,000.;)
My 200hp 6.5 is down to less than 30 MPH in the big hills out west and in Co. It's more like 225hp because the pump and turbo is turned up a bit and it has big exhaust.
That is what the new Dodge is going to be like with a 7K TT on the tail. For most nowdays, this is unexceptable.
How many gears does your 6.5 have? My 235 HP Cummins was in 1:1 when it hit 3rd gear, The new Dodge doesn't get there until it is in 6th. It will do a lot better in the hills.
4 plus lockup.
Gears don't make HP. Sure if I had a 6 speed in my 6.5 it may be a touch faster but that's about it.
My tractor has 12 speeds forward and I can keep it just where I want it to RPM wise. Tons of torque, just no HP, just like my pickup. It's no speed demon because it does not have a lot of HP; the same problem that this new dodge is going to have.
Remember, this trucks direct competition is going to be two trucks: 1 with over 120 more HP and the other with 60 more HP. And lets not forget the Yoda with over 400HP on tap. :E This truck and engine will get killed in a towing contest.
