My 05 with the 4 speed runs 74 mph at WOT (full hp) in drive (an yes will run that if I push it). With factory tire size that speed was 70. My truck also shifts from drive to overdrive with the TC locked in TH.
Ya but what happens if you if you keep it floored. Being able to hit peak HP isn't much good if you only make it while you pass through it before shifting to keep from blowing up. What happens if you can't get to 74 mph in that gear? Will you have a gear that will allow you to maintain peak at WOT at a speed you can maintain? The more gears you have, the more likely you will be able to match your speed to to your power and get up a hill quicker.
Being able to shift into OD locked is nice but you will have to be doing over 100 MPH to make peak power in OD.
Why would I need to make peak power in OD? Third already runs faster than the speed limit and I personally have yet found a time needed full power in third. If I do have to gear down on a hill from OD I usually will let it slow to around 65 or so and just hold it there. Remember though, I'm no where near 240 hp. Heck, I'm running around 200 more hp than that and have been for over 5 years and still running the stock trans (everybody knows how much of a piece of junk a Dodge transmission is) LOL!
LOL, come out west and you'll slow down a lot slower than 65 on the hills with your foot through the floor. Unless you are not towing.
LOL! This coming from someone that is running a 7.3.
