I went back through some of the earlier posts. It amazes me that in the Information Age, so many folks have to rely on cliches and catch phrases to explain horsepower vs torque.
I can generate 800ft/lbs of torque, with a breaker bar extension , at an ultra low 10rpm. Wow. I must be able to move a 10000# trailer up a mountain then.
Horsepower tells the story. Through gear reduction, what can be delivered to the ground. Peak or otherwise.
HP is listed as a peak value, but is charted on a dyno as a spread. That cause the common misunderstanding tha HP somehow is not relevant. HP is usable torque, peak torque is nebulous, as peak torque at HIGHER rpm, can do more.
Noise, mileage, preference are all not part of a horsepower debate. Horsepower is horsepower, peak numbers only tell a fraction of the story.
