Host Mammoth TC

We recently went to the Green Bay RV show and was able to see this new triple slide TC.

It had great finishes and was impressive (=very heavy). The bathroom was WOW! A separated room between the sink and shower. It has sliding doors that separate the BR, bath and living area. The bedroom is nice and you can to the sides of the bed which makes it easier to make up. IMO it looks shorter. Not sure about that.

It has a fireplace...but really lacks storage on the inside. It does have a pantry that can hold cans and boxes, but lacks drawers and cabinets for necessary items for the kitchen. The short sofa is comfy and it has huge floor to ceiling windows that make it feel roomy.

The under door storage drawer is fantastic. It extends out fully and is lighted. They have gone to Reico-titan jacks as they feel they're better than Happi-jac. The tanks are large (60 gal FW tank).

DH loved it, but I need more inside storage and a FP is overkill.

It was on sale for a mere $65,700. They had it on an F450 dually.
  • Depending on the construction technique and quality/materials, $65k could be a bargain. Building a quality camper is not cheap.
  • And wow on sale for $65K..... we'll likely never spend 1/2 that unless we are going to go full time in a TC.
  • TC are pretty amazing now a days.

You could likely delete out the fireplace for more storage.

Would you upgrade your truck to a 450/4500 or flatbed chassis cab? Thats what we feel like we will need to do next time if we go any bigger than our AF 1150.

We looked at some new Lances at the Salem, OR RV show the other weekend but was shocked at how many cupboards and drawers weren't latching and several other things amiss....Dear Dealer if your trying to sell it as new make sure everything is in perfect working order...and they didn't even bring in the 1172 with the rear slide/recliners...which they had in stock at their store.
  • I was also looking at the Host at the local RV show. Right now it is toss up between this unit and the triple slide Eagle Cap. As for price, you cannot compare a new unit to used. Super C's are north of $125k and not as compact as a truck camper (many also do not have 4wd).
  • At 65K you can buy a used super C...I looked at a 2014 Lance two days ago 1172, asking 33K still wonder how it got so high for so little improvement from my 1997 Lance 880 and my 2005 1161. Must be the Obama economy thing! Just wondering.
  • I saw one 2 years ago at the Hershey PA RV show. The bathroom sliding door was falling apart and some of the molding was loose and starting to come off. The pantry shelves were so thin I would be afraid to put canned goods on them. Like I said, that was 2 years ago so maybe the company improved on certain things. I agree that the overall interior storage was lacking for us. Very roomy though, I will give it that. And a nice bathroom.
