Hot water heater... turn off & on??? gas or electric???

An Atwood rep told me use it or lose it. In other words use the appliances as designed. When hooked up use both and you will never run out of hard water and your WH will last longer if used properly (USED) and maintained properly. I follow his advice but that's me. I agree with the other poster - if you pay this much for a rig why pinch pennys?
