How about a REAR bumper?

Good discussion on the front winch bumper.

What I'm after is a REAR bumper that will work as a rear tiedown anchor point.

I'm not real happy with my current rear tiedown situation, especially if I ever get a bigger camper. Torklift doesn't have a solution that will work with my Titan hitch. Happijac just wants me to punch holes in the factory bumper, but it's flimsy and I really don't buy that those braces are going to do all that much to strengthen it.

If I'm going to punch holes in a bumper, I want it to be made of something besides chewing gum wrappers.

  • Mathew,
Check out the Buckstop rear bumpers. Very well made, and they look pretty sweet, too. They look like they'll be able to accommodate what you're trying to do with the rear tie down point.

  • Thanks for the suggestions, but drilling and welding are not options. First off I do not want to compromise the structural integrity of the hitch by drilling a bunch of holes or having some hack "professional" weldor go at it. Second off I do not want to compromise the integrity of the paint on the hitch. It will be a rusty pitted hunk of scrap within 2 years.
  • I think I would try to fabricate something that would work with the Titan receiver you already have. Perhaps stop by a welding shop with pics of a Torklift set up.
  • I have the Titan hitch and ordered the Torklift rear tie downs with the flat plate and drilled and attached. They have worked great so far and I am running a 42" extension and haven't had any issues with the hitch.
  • The set of Torklift tie downs that I bought were made to insert inside the opened ends of my OEM hitch. I too replaced the OEM hitch and upgraded to a Reese Titan. I still used the original tie downs by cutting them down in length and welding them to flat steel plates. I then drilled and bolted the tie downs to the flat sides of the Titan hitch. They have worked very well.
  • Most of the rear bumpers I've seend aren't made to hold up to that much weight in the corders. Maybe one with a step on the corners would work, but you could just also run a pipe/1x1 steel piece to go to the corners with your existing bumper, or from your hitch.
  • I have fusion front and rear bumpers take a look at their website, I believe it is fusionbumpers.com . I am using tie-downs on their rear bumpers as attachment points for my torklift fastguns and am using the torklift mounts for the front fastgun tiedowns, has worked well so far.
  • I think just about everyone who makes a decent front bumper also makes a rear.

I am coveting an Aluminess rear bumper with the spare tire rack. But it won't work until I get either a 6' camper or quit TCing all together.

I also don't know how strong it would be in reference to the HJ tie downs.

You may want to price out what it would cost you to switch over to a Tork Lift hitch/tiedowns vs the new bumoper.
