Back in 2011 when I bought my Dodge, Ford had just come out with the 6.7L engine. I really liked the look of the F250, but due to the history of engine problems, I was afraid to go with the new engine. Anyway, I'm thinking about trading for an F250. Who has a lot of miles on a 6.7? What kind of luck are people having with them?

2012 F-250 Purchased Memorial Day 201236,210 miles around 12,000 towing my 35 foot 5th wheelno problems yet and love the truck, plenty of pulling power and decent mileage.Close to 20 not pulling anything and close to 12 pulling my 5th wheel

Purchased my F350 new in June 2010, and have not had 1 problem with it. I have always been a GM buyer since my dad retired from GM, but I must say this truck has been great. Friend also as 11 F350 and no problems with his either, other than when he first got it the dealer filled it with reg. gas.I get around 11 towing and 17 around town. I have about 35k miles on it now, half are towing.

Unfortunately, the 6.7 is not the finally trouble free diesel that everyone had hoped it would be. It has catastrophic problems like it's predecessors. Of course, it doesn't happen to all of them, but those to those that it does, Ford doesn't honor their warranty on it and those unfortunate souls are left holding the bag of carp themselves. I wouldn't buy one, and I'm a Ford guy, own plenty of Fords.

'12 Ford Super Duty Lariat FX4 CC 6.7 Powerstroke :B~34k miles as a daily commuter, pulls the camper, pulls the bay boat, and pulls the massive cattle trailer with ease, and not a single problem out of the truck. My best truck to date! :B

It sure is, but he states the trucks temp is 210 whether he's driving grandpa style or pulling 43k lbs. Maybe it's the Grandpa style driving that causing his problems? :B

BTW... As I stated I pull a massive cattle trailer as well, but I'll leave it at that for a public forum! :W

Gesus Troy, be careful out there man. They do things different in Texas and I REALLY would NOT want thisto happen to you. All this for getting pulled over in Texas.

But then again???? You might win some money. Just depends on how far you want to push the law. :B

Turtle hit it on the head! go through the two forums and see the huge difference between the two on engine familiars and other serious problems. This comparison is real world! decide for yourself !

I can't speak for anybody else but I'm not saying what to buy.

You asked how the 6.7's are and I pointed out they are having some problems and told you about those problems and even gave you several links to those problems.

I'm sure you will get lots of people saying their 6.7 has no problems. That's all good except just because they had no problems does not mean there are no problems. Case in point; I have had no problems with my 5.7 Olds diesel; the worst diesel ever manufactured. There are some that even to this day that think the 6.0 was a great engine. Funny thing is, even Ford disagrees with them.

The best thing to do is go on different forums and see what the common problems are.

First go on this forum and look for common problems.

Then go on this forum and look for common problems.

Go back 5, 10, 15 pages or so and look at the difference in problems between the two forums. I think you will be able to tell the difference immediately in the problems people post between the two forums.

I do find a lot of coolant issues with the Duramax that seams they still have head gasket issues they can't seam to fix from the factory.

Any gear head or true truck guy or girl will tell you that over the last 10 years, GM and dodge diesels have been proven more trustworthy and less money on cost of ownership. Yes I am a Duramax guy, but I follow the ford diesel program tight, and my boss, who is a ford guy, now stays far away from ford diesels from all money lost on the trucks he has. He has lets say lost faith in their product and their ability to stand by it!

One should be careful about basing your decision solely based on HEARSAY on these forums.

For every single complaint listed on a given brand and model you will have TENS OF THOUSANDS WITH NO COMPLAINTS.

Forums are rather finicky this way, people tend to get extremely vocal when there is problems. When there is NO problems people DON'T post.

The key here is BUY WHAT YOU LIKE, not what OTHERS want you to buy.

ALL manufacturers turn out lemons, don't let anyone tell you otherwise...

The 1/2 ton doesn't meet my needs and I need to go back to a 3/4 ton. It sounds like most on here would recommend that I go back with a Ram or Chevy. Is that true? Would either be a good choice?

You will likely go thru a few radiators, depending on how long you keep it... I've known of several people that replaced them multiple times before throwing in the towel when the warranty was gone and they found out what it costs!
I find it perplexing that somehow Ford has lost the ability to make one the doesn't leak. And this has been going on for a few years now.
