In our early twenties, we went to the Sand Dunes on Lake Michigan every summer to drive our dune buggy. We were broke and couldn't afford to stay in a hotel, so we tented. Even got a tent and two chairs as a wedding gift a couple of years later.
Fast forward to the arrival of baby number three. I figured we could no longer fit in the tent, but we liked the campground atmosphere and wanted to continue our annual trip to the dunes. In 2010, we got an offer from a friend to purchase his 20 year old TT. We decided to give it a try. Our first trip outside of the dunes I was in a state of shock. It was heaven compared to the tent....the toilet, the fridge, the roof! With three young kids it was truly the best purchase we'd made. Then we started travelling. I realized how sheltered I was growing up, how little of the US I had actually seen. Now I have a passion for national parks and showing the kids new states and having new experiences.
The year after purchasing our first TT, our awning was torn off, and we decided we needed something with AC because we like to travel with our dogs. So, we purchased a brand new travel trailer.......honestly......I love that TT more than my house.
Sure, the roof, fridge and toilet are nothing short of a miracle, but it's really what the TT represents that's the most appealing. The freedom, the lack of responsibilities, the sense of adventure. That's what's so great about it.
