With the new type of ORP are they shorter the the original valve? Then trim a bit off the top protection flange and some off the ring bottom...could that gain you the 1.5"?
If I cut off the top ring it would obliterate some of the data that is stamped into the ring.... then even the attendents that don't really check the dates would be afraid to fill them.
The bottom of the tank is 3/4" of the ground.... where it hangs down into the ring.... that wouldn't help much....

A light weight aluminum box bolted vertically to the back of my camper with the aluminum tanks seem to be a doable idea.
I need to find a aluminum box that is 28" to 30" long... at least 27" to 30" wide.... 14" to 16" deep
When mounted the door would be ~30" tall and ~30" wide.... Hinged at the top would be OK with me.... hanging closed... and a weather cover when open.
Make a unistrut mounting bracket to hold the tanks.... mount the automatic valve and regulater at the top of the back between the tanks.
If someone hits the camper in the rear it will hopefully knock the tanks completely off... or if it breaks the pipe.... the orp valve wouldn't let the propane flow with a wide open broken pipe....
I read this thread every day.... picking bits and pieces... getting new perspectives.
It appears that others are finding that "Getting old isn't for sissys!"
Thanks for all of your posts
