The price of trucks have gone out the roof, but I'll have to admit, there are some nice trucks out there. I see these guys driving them, and wonder what they do for a living, but I think most are in debt up to their eyes.
We did the Dave Ramsey thing 10 years ago, and Haven't had a car payment in over 9 years. We both drive 2002 cars, I've got 195K miles, and my wife is at 236K miles. We have been making 2 car payments to a savings account for 9 years, now the hard part is letting go of the cash to buy a new car. When you look at stroking a check, it is much more painful than changing payments. I bet your friend wouldn't stroke a check for $9k to swap trucks.
Really for young adults, I'd encourage them to save and pay atleast half down, and do a realistic written budget, and look to see how much they can easily afford, and still put money in savings.
