I bought a Pontiac Montana Van new in 1999 on a 5 year pay plan. The monthly payment was $260. When I paid it off I continued to put $260 per month into a savings for the purchase of next car. You will need a vehicle all of your life so expect to either make payments or save and pay cash. If you put money away monthly like you were making a car payment you can pay cash for a vehicle every 10 years and not have to pay any interest.
You're not going to go too far wrong with that plan....good for you to be able to stick with it.
Yep. Bought a new ford escape hybrid in 2008 to replace the 1999 montana. Kept the montana and use it as my farm knock around rig. Paid cash for the escape but still making that $260 savings payment (to myself) every month :)
