One thing I can agree on is the ridiculous price of used vehicles these days. I did a search of 2015 F-150's and F-350's in the Salt Lake City area today and the "average" price for both types of trucks with less than 60,000 miles was anywhere between the low $40's to the mid $50's. F-150's are right up there with the F-350's surprisingly. When I look at the cost of buying new, I'd rather spend an extra $10-20K to get a vehicle that has not been molested by previous drivers, has exactly what I want in it and comes with a full warranty. It's hard to justify buying used when the price difference is so close.
I agree. We have never ever bought a new vehicle. In years past it made more sense to buy used. 2 Years ago we bought Toyota Sienna off a 2 year lease that someone had turned in. It was $13,000 less than a new one.
Our truck needs replacing. I wanted to buy a 2-3 year old used one just like our Sienna. So far, I haven't found one that has been reasonably priced. I don't care too much about features. So far, I can purchase a brand new work truck edition GM for what a 2-3 year old LT version are going for. Trouble is, I don't want to spend that much!
Looked at a 2011 GM 2500HD LT with 60,000 miles on it last week. It was only $12,000 less than a new W/T GM. I can't justify the used one when they are that close in price. 60,000 miles isn't much, but 6 winter's in Vermont is.
