Mom paid the bills, ran the household cause DAD was out in the oilfield 3-4 months making the money.
Mom PAID 10% off monies into an account every month just like a recurring BILL.
We moved roughly every 3-4 yrs into a larger, nicer home
Mom got a new car every 4-5 yrs. Dad got a new cab chassis (to build his welding truck on) every 5 yrs.
Nothing fancy........just good quality with some good horse trading on my Dad's a part.
I learned and followed my Mom's example.
Paid myself every month beginning with my first job------paperboy at 13 until my last job at 50. Even in retirement I still follow that rule
Have paid cash for vehicles---cars/trucks/motorcycles since 1982.
Only homes were loans.
I learned a long time ago to live on the monies you bring home.
Overtime was a dirty word to me. Working 12 hr rotating shifts I cherished my days off. Some co-workers HAD to take every bit of OT they could get to make ends meet due to buy this/buy that on credit....and none were happy.
Stay out of debt...pay cash...pay yourself K.I.S.S.
How much to spend on a truck?
Find the right truck for the job and then only spend what you need to purchase
(Thankfully some of Dad's horse trading rubbed off & Mom's common sense!) :B
As for Starbuck's coffee.......
I don't buy it either. Not cause of costs but because I don't like their coffee. I don't like most of the coffee being offered 'commercially' (restaurants, kiosk, etc). They are OK on occasion when out and about but I prefer my own
