How do you determine how much to spend on a truck?

So, what have we learned from this thread, especially from those who have the discipline and means to comfortably pay for a new truck?

1. Pay with cash
2. Avoid debt
3. Live within your means
4. Save for a future purchase i.e. delay instant gratification
5. Buy only as much truck as you truly "need" not "want"
6. Quit trying to keep up appearances and competing with the Jonses
7. Start saving/investing for retirement at an young age
