How do you determine how much to spend on a truck?

Some of the rule of thumbs I think are now a little outdated. My truck is at 2 1/4 percent interest which makes a lot of difference than a few years ago at 6 to 9 percent. Also different strokes for different folks. A 10 year plus rig is fine for local area trips but if I was off to Alaska I would be a bucket of nerves.
