How do you tell when your waste tanks are full?

Our camper has indicator lights on the range hood that profess to show the level in each of the waste tanks. But I'm not sure I can trust the lights. I don't want to pull up stakes and go looking ...

Never having heard of them, I Googled "sea level gauges," Now I wonder how much installation costs and how well the gauges work.
