I had a valve stem fail on my Opel while driving over 100 mph in Germany. I thought something let go in the front end with the way the car shook, but I let off the pedal and coasted on to the right shoulder. My other flats at speed have been leaks where I felt vagueness in the road feedback and have been able to safely pull over (whether towing or not). Most my flats at speed when loaded destroyed the tire integrity requiring a new tire even though the tire did not shred. We had a popup trailer that liked to eat tires, but it was light enough to pull off to the side of the road without even having a tight grip.
