How I learned to tell where a tire was made

Slow day at work and looking into new tires for the truck, 2014 Ram Tradesman 6 cylinder diesel, as we are heading out for 1300 mile trip to the southwest soon. After spending much of the time reading I am getting Michelin - X LT A/S.

I thought I would post this as it kinda covers two things, truck towing tires and exactly what tires are made in the US of A. as China Bombs are often a discussion in RV forums.

  • Not everything made in the Good Ol' US of A is bulletproof...here is the BFG LT Tire Recall, and as you know, BFG is owned by Michelin and these tires were manufactured in Tuscaloosa, AL.

I bought a set of Michelin Premiers for sweetie's Magnum 5.7L R/T a few years back and had a vibraton in the rear. Took it back to the tire dealer 2x for rebalancing until the dealer told me to live with it. I took the car home and jacked it up in the garage and this is what both rear tires looked like VIDEO.

Went back and showed the manager at the tire store the video and he installed 4 new tires on the spot. Problem solved, and so much for quality control.
  • Are those Sam's/Walmart tires? I highly advise getting the Michelin Defenders!!!
  • Many have the country molded into the sidewall. But if you want to know the specific plant they were made at you need to look at those type web sites.
  • Catchy phrase “China bombs.” Any other countries or states where you want to make blanket statements?
