How level for refrigerator?

This is my first camper of any type. I've always done a tent thing when camping. I did a search but couldn't find an answer to my question. Like the subject says, how level do you have to make the camper to run the refrigerator? Say one rear tire is 3 inches lower than the other, is that too much tilt? Which is more critical, side to side or front to rear or is it the same for both directions?

My manual says 6 degrees front to back (refrigerator front) and 3 degrees side to side. That is a pretty big range.

I believe you will find 3 degrees across an 8 foot span to be around 5 inches.
  • Use one of those simple leveling bubbles you can buy at any RV place or even a hardware store. If the bubble is touching the circle, you're ok. That is quite a bit of "out of level", so the tolerance is quite a bit.

TC has to be level if using gas ref . If using AC voltage not so much...still not excessively off level. Otherwise the ref will lock out after three resets and will need to be reset by a dealer . That means many $$$ unless you know someone on line who can assist you as happened to us . We were in the mountains of Va and our ref was on gas and way out of level . Luckily some one on line assisted us by tell us how to reset the circuit board. We leveled the TC after that.

The fridge doesn't care what the heat source is. It needs to be close to level on gas or AC. The reason is the coolant circulates by gravity through a spiral tube set. It can't flow uphill.

  • I run mine while driving down the road . So I dont think its that critical. This is just my Opinion though. But I guarantee you these guys on here know. And so Im going to follow this post and get educated with you. But I think a lot of people worry over this to much. I havent had any problems with mine .
