Our 2007 Tundra (5.7) with extended cab, 6' bed tows our 6,500 lbs. or so fully loaded 2014 Minnie 2201DS (26'9") trailer without a problem. We've been out west and in the mountains, in higher winds, etc. I did tow our 29' Sunline trailer a few times that weighed in around 8k. The Tundra pulled it fine, but the higher weight of the Sunline could definitely be felt and I don't think I would want to have done long term towing with that combination.
But, how towing performance is perceived is very personal. Many folks don't mind towing a maximum capacity and limited vehicle performance. Others prefer to be conservative with towing weight and would rather have a little more power in reserve.
