- valhalla360NavigatorIf the travel trailer has plenty of hitch weight and the boat is small and light...not too bad.
But if the trailer is marginal on hitch weight and it's a decent size boat, it could be a problem.
Example: You have a 6000lb trailer with 10% hitch weight (600lb). You put a 2000lb boat/trailer with a 15% hitch weight (300lb) on the back. That extra weight at the back of the trailer will take around 250lb off the travel trailer hitch (depends on the exact positioning of the axles but rough estimate). Now you are running 350lb hitch weight on a 6000lb trailer. That's less than 6% and likely a sway machine waiting to wipe you out.
5th wheels are much better because they start around 20-25% on the pin. Then the wheels are further back so each pound on the rear of the trailer might only take 1/2 lb off the hitch. The result is you can put a lot more weight on the rear of the trailer without getting the pin weight down where it gets squirrely. - SDcampowneroperExplorerTowing 2 trailers with ball and ball linkage does little to take away from safety if the linkage if axle and sway braking is done right.
I have towed 1000s of miles from On. through Mb. to and throughout permitting states and back with a tow length of 75' many times with a 32' TT, a 20 i/o runabout behind a srw 1 ton truck
braking is key, each should have a bit more braking power than the preceeding.
The laws of most Cdn. provinces and many US states permit ' ball and ball' combination towing within length and braking restrictions.
The drivers skill level is key second to equipment. Doubles towing is not for novices.
Get professional training , set your equipment up well. then enjoy! - rbpruExplorer III believe the the only restriction is over all length in some states.
- WNYBobExplorerI haven't done this as it is not legal in NY, but have seen many posts here that warn about adding a hitch to the back of a TT. First issue is weak bumpers, a frame mounted hitch is a must. Some mfg's have warnings against adding anything on their bumpers. So check with your mfg.

Hate to say this but Arizona does not allow 2 trailers with a ball connection to be towed together. They do allow a 5th wheel first and then a ball type trailer to be towed behind it. Now they will not say anything about it if the trailer have out of state plates. If you have Arizona plates they will stop you.
AZ allows it and you see it constantly in CO so I think it is fine here as well. I have not done to TAG's but a gooseneck and a TAG and it was a piece of cake. Watch your turns and make dang sure your tongue weights are good since getting any sway would be very hard to control I would think. - 98coachmanExplorerIdaho allows it and have done this. Not a big deal you have to remember that you are a lot longer than usual! Backing up is a little more complicated, but doable, just take your time. Good luck,Bill

I am considering adding a small boat trailer to pull behind my Travel Trailer. I have seen this many times in Ontario .
How many of you do it and what are your experiences like pulling 2 trailers ball to ball
I also have two balls - MACHZERExplorerMissing a post of mine for some reason.
Thanks for all of the replies .
I do know a lot of the states don't allow it.
I am going to use to pull 2.5 hours away on a minor
55 mph highway.
I was looking for some input and suggestions from those who have done this
Eventually will upgrade to a 5 th
Thanks - MACHZERExplorer

my understanding is Ontario requires the first hitch to be a 5th wheel
No, Ontario and the Western Provinces with the exception of BC allow it
In Ontario I seen it many times on HWY 17 on my way east to Thunderbay - tchilExplorerAZ allows it and you see it constantly in CO so I think it is fine here as well.
