We are in the process of purchasing our first travel trailer, and being first-timers, we have really only been looking at TTs shorter than 28', which has limited our choices somewhat. We have seen quite a few that we really like that are 30'. Therefore, my question is, how much of a difference does 2 extra feet of a TT make in driving? Would is cause considerably more sway on the highway? Is it much more difficult to maneuver into a campground space? Or, as newbies, should we stick with the shorter TT until we can build up some experience with towing?
In truth. The length has little to do with towing down the road. There are only two times when length becomes important. One of course is when picking a campsite. You must be sure your TT will fit, and that you have enough space to back it in.
Two. is towing on curvy mountain roads where with a longer TT. You will need to use both sides of the road in a curve, or when you turn off the highway into a side road. Three. Is when passing another vehicle. You have to stay out longer to be sure you have room to get back in. Other than that, length means very little while towing
