Yes, there is a very large variance. Some pop ups like northstar have more room than some hard sides. I had a northstar laredo hard side which was like being in a coffin. Absolutely no sitting up and to get out of the cab over required a half sit up and a great abb work out to move in and out. My kids hit their heads on the cabover so many times. It was worthy of offroad use,but the cabover was limited to sleeping only. This was a major feature Why I went with my current WC. I can sit up and read, but the overhead is not too high which raises the center of gravity and you get alot of sway when going off road. Since you like to boondock and get off the beaten path if/when you decide to get a TC you should seriously look at this feature before pulling the trigger. With a TC you are limited on space and we really need the cabover as an additional hang out space and not jst for laying down/sleeping.
