Either an F150 3.5L EB with the HD payload package or an F250 will easily pull that. The F250 6.2L will pull it with better stability and better engine braking while the F150 will pull it with better performance and maybe better fuel mileage.
F150 3.5 EB with HD payload package WILL cost MORE than a similarly outfitted F250 with 6.2 AND the F150 EB, HD payload package WILL HAVE LESS available payload.
For instance, my 2013 F250 XLT super cab short bed has 3415 lbs cost me under $40K out the door..
F150 3.5 EB super cab XLT with payload package will have a max available payload of 1900 lbs and will easily cost you around $45K (fully loaded premium trim levels with crew cab in F150 EB can exceed $60K!).
You WILL run out of payload before you ever reach the supposed max towing ratings.
The tow ratings ARE based of the BASE MODEL of the vehicle and the payload is also based off the BASE MODEL.. Which would be a XL REGULAR CAB with only bare minimum of equipment. Add upper trim levels, bigger cab, longer bed and so on you lose payload and tow rating..
If I remember correctly the max payload available on a F150 is right around 2200-2300 lbs and that IS for a no frills stripped down REGULAR CAB XL model.
Actually, an HD Payload package F150 will not cost more than a 6.2L F250. At Least not in my neck of the woods.
