I used to only check mine before each trip. I've had a couple of blow-outs on the Goodyear Marathon tires. One was violent enough it shook the trailer and tow vehicle. The last one gave me no physical feedback. I had someone pull up next to us on the hwy, pointing at our trailer. I could see pieces of the tire coming off in the mirror, but no vibration what-so-ever. That was the last straw. What if the second tire, now overloaded since it's carrying all the weight on that side, also failed?
For $200, I bought a TPMS. Not only does it alert if a tire blows out, or the temperature gets too high, but it also gives me a pressure reading on all tires realtime. Now I check my tire pressure at every rest stop, and never have to get the tire pressure gauge out of the glove box.
