Feb 23, 2018NATO jerry cans are nice. They're slim and flat so that you can easily fit them side by side without wasting space. They're made pretty robustly and have locking caps that make for a leak free design. I've had some under tonneau covers for weeks without any contamination issues. The downside is that they can be expensive, but the nice part is that the cans will outlive me.
For short trips we'll normally just bring 5 or 10 gallons. Cross country trips we'll bring 20 gallons. Even in this day and age there's still some pretty desolate stretches across this country. Also it doesn't hurt to be prepared as a simple headwind can drain your tank a lot faster than you anticipated.
