How to clean mildewed rubber trim piece

I have a couple of pieces of rubber exterior trim that have really gotten stained as if by mildew. There is no apparent surface material, no odor of any kind, and a hearty cleansing with soap and water does no good.

I thought my next step would be to use a household cleaner with bleach like 'scrubbing bubbles' or the like.

Have any of you dealt with a similar issue and if so did you have any luck? I either want to clean this properly or determine if it is practical to paint over this trim so it looks clean again.

Thanks for any help,
Stu
  • +1 for bleach solution and a Magic Eraser. The toothpaste would seem to work well also.

Wouldn't use anything abrasive on a "finished" surface though.
  • Thanks for the suggestions, I will give it a go tomorrow.

    P.S.
I think I will kiss my wife instead. LOL
  • I use toothpaste followed by a wet rag. Plus it leaves a nice minty smell. Nothing like having your rv smell fresh and kissable!
  • Personally bought a mildew killing spray. Started using it and noticed it smelled like bleach. Read the bottle, and only 2 chemicals used. One of them is bleach. It seems to have removed most of the mildew marks as well on my house. The diluted bleach solution should work fine.
  • Spray a little Krud Kutter, then use a Mr Clean Magic Eraser on it with a little elbow grease. Should come right off.
  • Bleach in water (2 cups in gallon) wait 30=45 minutes or so and repeat. Then wash with car wash liquid.
