How to enjoy packing for a trip

Some time ago, on this forum, someone commented how much he enjoys getting ready for a trip. I, on the other hand, while I love TCing, hate packing. I always succeed in making it stressful and tedious. So I am wondering: Those of you who enjoy packing, how do you make it enjoyable?

Note: I have always relied on a checklist and can't imagine functioning without it--though sometimes the packing checklist seems as much a source of misery as it is a useful tool.
  • Somehow the whole process of traveling with an RV is enjoyable for me. Getting the camper set up, deciding what is necessary, what is fluff, and where to put it all is a challenge I find interesting.
I've taken it one step further this time and started rebuilding/upgrading a low end Palomino TC. I've probably removed and replaced 300 fasteners at this point! I have time on my hands, and need to find useful things to do. The Palomino has filled the bill very well.

In the end my goal is always to have a "turnkey" rv 100% ready to go at a moments notice. Put food in the frig, throw a change of clothes or two in an empty bin, and Take Off!

I don't have a good answer to your question..... just embrace the process, and enjoy the fruits of your effort.

  • Me too! Putting it IN the camper means I'm going to have a trip ! Taking it OUT of the camper means it's over... :(

  • I like the packing and prepping for an outing! The menu planning, the organizing of stuff, the checking to insure the Coleman stove tank is full, the loading of firewood, the fresh linen, the beer in the fridge! Usually the last item to be loaded is the filling of the fresh water tank.

I love the load-in prep! I hate the unloading when I return...'cause it means that the camping is over (at least for the time being.)
  • Why pack for each trip? I keep everything I need in the camper. When I am ready to go, I just grab a few perishables from the house fridge, my shave gear, and my medicines and I go!
