Bleach absolutely kills any kind of mold it comes in contact with but it does have to come in contact with it. (just about ANY mold killing product you buy will be loaded with bleach and maybe TSP)
I have found that with repeated applications it will kill mold in wood but you have to keep it applying it until the mold is gone. I have had excellent result this way even with very deep, black mildew.
