How to lock down a Honda 3000

I have a GMC 2500 with Reese 5th wheel hitch with rails bolted to the frame. I'm looking for suggestions on how to lock-up my Honda 3000 in the truck bed without drilling the bed and bolting down. Seems I remember someone developing a system that used the hitch rails to secure his Honda 3000.

It is adjustable and easy to use. The cargo carrier is secure and robust , yet easy to lift so getting it in the receiver is not a problem... It came with all the adjusting arms and the secure lock..

Ditto on this, great solution if you have a rear receiver on the 5er or a front receiver on the truck. Cutting through this with a hack saw would be like breaking out of San Quentin with a nail file....

  • Best bet is to put your pit bull right next to it. Guaranteed to be there when you get back.

I'd lock it to the tie downs and then lock the tailgate. If you can lift it up and over the truck bed without throwing out your back or getting a hernia you can have it.
  • I run a chain through the base rails to the corner bed tie down. On the 3000 you just unscrew the handles and they come off.
The base rails are bolted from the bottom so they'd have to pry the gen off and probably ruin it in the process.
  • I run a small cable through the tie down hook in the bed and have good insurance for when that doesnt work.
  • I use to run a long shafted padlock through the bed rail openings and if IIRC a chain through the bottom frame of my honda eu3000 and then through the padlock. My current setup is on a Heavy duty cargo carrier which I have locked in the receiver. Then I have four pieces of 4" wide angle iron that run into the base of the honda and it is welded to the cargo carrier. When I use my TC I mount it on the front and when I use the 5th wheel it goes into the rear receiver on the 5th wheel. This works well for me.
  • I place my 3000 in the bed against the cab on the passenger side with the plug facing the passenger side of the vehicle with about six inches of clearance. That way, I can reach over the bed and plug in an extension cord that will reach back to my FW cord.

To lock it very securely, I use a very heavy chain, and a really stout padlock. I run the chain over the handle, and clip the padlock into a tie down loop that is in the front right corner of the bed. The weakest link in this set up is the Honda itself. Someone with a hacksaw could cut the handle pretty quickly and haul it away.

Best bet is not so much in locking it down, but to keep it out of prying eyes. Hide it any way you can.
