How to Remove Antenna?

Yep, like someone else said, it appears to be a Winegard style antenna. Bat wing antennas are no longer used - those were the old analog style antennas, which cranked up via a handle on the inside.

It's either held down with hex head screws or square drive screws.

Difficulty in prying off the roof depends on what was used under the antenna, either butyl putty or the clay style putty.

On my AF811, the roof vent had clay style putty, which made removal easy. On other RVs I've worked on, butyl putty was used on the roof accessories. It is a real chore removing an item when butyl putty is used because it's almost like glue.

Warranty won't be applicable for removing the antenna if you take it to the dealer. The dealer will charge you to remove it.

If I were doing the project, I'd reuse the screws and the original holes in the roof. Make an aluminum plate and drill the hols in it so they match the holes of the antenna, then use the clay based putty, then Dicor self leveling sealant after the plate is screwed to the roof.

Using the same mounting pattern on the holes and clay based putty will make removal easy when it comes time to reinstall the antenna at resale time.

We duct taped some rags around the blades. Cover went on okay. I still want to get rid of it next spring.

mine survived last year with cover over antenna. But I did add foam pool noddle between roof and antenna because the thing rattled at night in the wind.

my new Arctic fox also has that antenna. cover goes on next week

I don't have a antenna but I could see your cover getting ripped on it. I cover my TC and the wind really can move the cover around sometimes. Use tennis balls on your corner roof drains,just cut the center out so it fits nice then tape the tennis balls with painters tape to the TC. If you don't remove the antenna build a box over it. Covers are a pain but they do protect the investment.

just lay a cheap plastic tarp over the antenna if you are going to put a cover on the RV. I wouldn't cobble up a patch myself, especially if you are ever interested in resale value.

when I thought about replacing mine with a sat. dish I did figure out that the hole in the inside ceiling could be perfectly patched/filled with a smoke detector.

Not a King jack. It has wings off each side that are about 6 inches off the roof. They extend out to a 20 inch radius. The thing has bolts that apparently separate the mount from the antenna. I can't get the two pieces apart. I think I'll just run the cover over it and hope it doesn't tear it.

Because he doesn't want it there, that's why! :W

I didn't want mine either and removed it about 11 years ago.

After removing the antenna, I made a patch out of aluminum flashing and covered the backside with Eternabond double-stick tape. That's essentially Eternabond with no backer at all so both sides stick. Then I went around the edge with polyurethane caulk, and spray painted it white.

I had to make a patch for the inside too, since mine had a crank. Nobody but me knows it used to be there.
