I am totally amazed at the new generation of truck campers, coupled with the internet to ad fuel to the fire.
In the old days as posted above,it was common to see an 8' plus overhead camper hooked up to a horse trailer and were talking trucks with a GVWR of like 7200 pounds...No broken axles/cracked rims or blown tires and the camper was tied down with stake pocket tie downs.
I agree with everything you say except that now a heck of alot of people drive like maniacs, and a TC with that type of setup could easily fall victim to some imbecile running into the back of you.

That boat ain't that heavy and besides,that setup was way way before weight police existed, when people just adapted to situations without the fallout the internet provides!

Also, I can't see one in the pic but my friend Steve has one on his camper for the same type boat and I now have one on my box trailer for my 12 ft aluminum boat. A little electric motor that pulls the boat up and flips it to lay as you see it. It's pretty darn cool. I see some guide ropes attached to the camper that makes me think this is the same thing.- Thats a 1965 or 66 F250.
- I don't think a TC like that one is very heavy. Not much more than a shell.
