How's this combo

This is what I am thinking about purchasing in the future.

2014 Ram 2500 4x2, Laramie CC, shortbox 6.4L Gas, 4.10 Gear
Payload 3490
Towing 15,820

Fifth wheel
KZ Durango D336RE
Dry weight 10,070 (10,400 actual weight as seen at local RV show)
Dry Hitch 1,830
GVWR 12,500
Length 34' 9"

Going by GVWR (20% x 12,500) = 2500 Pin weight

Looks by the numbers that I should be good. What am I missing? I was initially looking at a 1 Ton Ram Gas but I only gain 490lbs payload (3980 vs 3490) and I'd like to get the 2500 due to the coil spring suspension. The truck will be my daily driver.

All I can say is WOW on the truck. Its payload is 1400+ more and the towing is 2 ton more than my '04.5 Dodge diesel 2500. Whats the gcvw rating of the truck? Mine is 20k. I would be tempted to go for it.

The GCVW on this particular model/trim is 22,500lbs with the 4.10 gears. You can see all the stats on the Ram pickups using the ram body builder site. www.rambodybuilder.com

Payload is high because it's a gas motor. The same truck with the 6.7 diesel is 2520lbs with the automatic transmission.
  • As long as you confirm the payload as equipped by the Tire and Loading sticker on driver's door, looks good. But that pin weight will probably be closer to 2300 pounds, plus a 200 pounds hitch and people in cab and stuff around the hitch. 3000 pounds of payload goes quickly!

    Enjoy!
