Truck Camper and TT Combo

The tongue weight of the trailer impacts your payload. I think you are going to be significantly over.

Otherwise, the rules for towing a TT behind a TC are the same as towing other trailers of the same weight behind the rig. I did tow a TT behind my TC from Seatle area to Yellowstone and back without issues, but of course, I have a F450 with 14500 GVWR.

I agree with Jim...significantly over. By “empty” do you also mean without fresh water? No one wants to fill with water once you arrive at the campground.

Chances are that with just the TC you will exceed the load capacity of the tires on your SRW. then you add in the trailer tongue weight. Take the truck and trailer to a cat scale. take the number you get for the rear axle and subtract that from the tires maximum load rating x2 (2 tires) that gives you an idea of what additional load your tires are capable of with your current set up. It will be an eye opener.

If you can make the numbers work for your RAWR then go for it.

Hunt down moosetracks he is hauling a TC and Airstream. Don’t see him much around here anymore but you may find him on the AirStream forum.

My rear GAWR is 7,000 lbs. The tires are load rating 125 - so that's 3,638 lbs per tire, 7,276 lbs combined (I never thought to look up the tire load rating, so thanks for that!)

12% of 6,000 lbs (estimated tongue weight of the TT) is 720 lbs. It seems like it's doable.

Any other numbers I need to look at? Thanks again.

What’s your actual payload? You, wife, other pets/passengers, and gear in the truck are all going to count.

I can’t imagine you won’t be significantly over on the truck’s GVWR and close on rear GAWR and tire load capacity.

But it all starts with weighing your current setup and getting real numbers. There’s a sticky in the fifth wheel forum that can help.

First I would be extremely cautious about manufacturer's weights. That 4700# wet weight may not include accessories. For my RV the missing accessories included the A/C unit, solar panels, additional battery, awnings and more. Even if you want to keep any storage in the TC to a minimum, you can easily add another 500# for cooking gear, refrigerator items, minimum amounts of food, clothing, etc.

Anyway the details hardly matter you will be way overweight:

4300# load capacity, minus 350# for two passengers, minus 4700# wet weight, minus 700 tongue weight, minus 500 gear, minus 200 bed mat, tiedown brackets and fastguns. You will be 2200# overweight and almost all of that will be on the rear axle greatly exceeding the tire and wheel load ratings.

Again, Jim’s number appear correct to me. A ton overweight.
