The reluctance to get a 250 is based on the fact that we'll use it to tow probably considerably less than 10% of the time; the rest of the time, whatever we buy will be our town vehicle. Gas mileage is a factor. The 150s we've driven had a "trucky" feel to them that was quite uncomfortable. Most were hard to get into and out of. Gas mileage sucks. We don't need a truck, except for this. We can't afford to have three vehicles, and we don't have space for more than two.
Unlike most the the people here, from what we can tell, we aren't experienced towers. We just want to be able to do short trips here and there in the gorgeous area where we live, with the occasional longer - one or two weeks - trip. We don't know much about internal combustion vehicles, we can't crawl around under the chassis - we wouldn't know what to look for anyway - and we are probably the kind of inexperienced people you all don't like to see on the road! We drive carefully (and slowly - never more than 55 or 60, depending on the road and traffic) and learn a little more each time.
So thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience so freely.
