Oh Tom I was and some of that was true but not all.See towing in the "old days" involved correcting those issues which included larger radiators/transmission coolers and better shocks and spring plus of-course,wider-heavier duty tires.
See,there wasn't a Camper Special to haul overhead campers until the pioneers proved that extra springs/sway control etc was a needed necessity for hauling an overhead camper..Poof..The Camper Special evolved..
Same with the "now" tow packages,they were not common or even in existence back when but those that did all the towing quickly found out that extra's were needed to tow better..Poof..The tow package..The WD hitch/sway bars and a bunch of stuff they say you need now to tow safely...
Towing safely is the driver not the equipment used!
