spoon, I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you but I do have a question for you regarding your quote below.

Toyota says that, properly loaded, my truck can safely tow a 10,300 lbs trailer. The brakes don't care if that is a 5th wheel, flat deck of bricks, etc. Therefore they believe that the Tundra's brakes plus the brakes of the 10,300 lbs trailer are sufficient enough to safely bring my vehicle to a halt. Furthermore, they met federal standards to make that claim.
When 2011 model year came around and Toyota fully adopted J2807, why is it that Toyota dropped their ratings on a virtually unchanged 2010 --> 2011 model year?
http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2010/08/toyota-lowers-trailering-ratings-gains-credibility.htmlThe same thing happened to my wife's 2010 Sequoia however the rating dropped nearly 2000 lbs. and put our TT over the ratings if I were to follow J2807 versus the 2010 specs. Legally I am in my rights to be safely loaded on our TT towing with our Sequoia but opted to upgrade my truck for way better towing manners.
In 2010, Toyota "knew" those were safe numbers...but...
