Our F250 has a huge discrepancy between the actual payload capacity and the sticker number on the door pillar.
GVWR = 9600 lbs
sticker payload capacity = 2701 lbs
actual truck wt. = 7780 lbs (with full tank of gas and 200 lb. driver only)
available payload capacity = 1820 lbs (includes canopy weighing est. 200 lbs)
Our actual payload cap. is way off the sticker number. I have weighed the truck at 4 different scales and all were within scale accuracy. The sticker number corresponds with Ford's website number, but I can't tell exactly due to the canopy we installed. Our available payload capacity (without exceeding GVWR) without the canopy (approx. 200 lbs) is around 700 lbs less than what Ford says it should be.
The only explanation is that the payload cap. is reduced due to the options - 4x4, 8' box, V10, supercab plus a few lesser options like tow hooks. There was an article a while back that said Ford and GM were fudging numbers by using stripped down test vehicles to reduce curb weight. Some are adamant that payload sticker numbers are accurate, but for our truck that's clearly not the case.
Fortunately 1800 lbs is ample for our needs. The F250 is much beefier all 'round compared to our old F150, but if we were looking for a new truck, the new F150 appears to be far superior than our 3/4T for payload. It's all rather confusing...
