Why don't it shift on its own?
Cuz my tanks were full the 5ver would have been about 16k. Now had it been a Ram passing me I probably would have pulled it into manual in the hopes that I could get er to buckle down but to be honest I really wasn't overly concerned about being shown up by a 1/2 ton. Why it didn't shift down on its own is a good question though. One that can only be answered by the Ford engineers. The thing is definitely engineered to turn low rpm. The same thing happens on the down hills - if you want the engine to aggressively hold back you need to manually shift the truck to a lower gear than what the auto will choose.
