I'm a little confused. What rear end gears are you running? 2000 rpm at 50 mph ? My Ram runs1500 rpm at 60 mph with a 3.73 rear end. Obviously you must have down shifted and still nothing happened? Time to take it into the shop.
It was loafing along in 4th gear before I put it to the floor. Flooring it did not initiate any further shifting. The truck has 3.55 gears and if the tranission software had called for a shift, third gear would have brought the rpm up to about 2650 and put about 30% more torque to the rear wheels. I don't think the truck has anything wrong with it, it is just designed to choose torque over power; economy over speed.
If you were loafing along in 4th gear you must have had the gear selector in Manual mode. My 6.7 will downshift easily when I floor it. You need horsepower to go up a hill and that means revving the engine to where the peak horsepower develops. At 2000 RPM, you were down about 100HP.
I did a little playing around tonight and this is what I discovered: pin er at 50 mph and she drops to 4th gear every time, up hill down hill it doesn't matter. Pin er at 49.5 mph and it drops to 3rd gear every time. When it drops to third it puts you back in your seat and stays in 3rd till about 58 mph. If you manually hold third it will pull hard to about 65 mph before cutting out.
