I did a little playing around tonight and this is what I discovered: pin er at 50 mph and she drops to 4th gear every time, up hill down hill it doesn't matter. Pin er at 49.5 mph and it drops to 3rd gear every time. When it drops to third it puts you back in your seat and stays in 3rd till about 58 mph. If you manually hold third it will pull hard to about 65 mph before cutting out.
Did you do this with tow/haul activated? It is a completely different shift strategy. It may have different speed and shifting characteristics.
