That's just baloney. I hate to tell you this, but not all engineers agree with you or your political philosophy. So you can't fall back on "engineering mindset" for your views that are essentially political.
So you just don't like government regulations. It has nothing to do with your "engineering mindset".
IMHO some of the most exciting engineering advances in automotive technology have come about recently because of, and only because of government regulations. Battery, and electric motor and regen technology in particular. The same can be said for electric generation by wind and solar. But I may be biased there as our son (the M.E.) works on wind generation.
