Knock on wood, I've never had a problem, either, with bed ends open or closed. I think the previous owners may have had a problem, though, since the canvas has all been replaced.

I love my hybrid. I still look at other campers regularly and I have never found anything I like nearly as well. It's perfect for me when I travel alone and when I have my grandchildren with me.
