I Caved & Upgraded to Ford F-250 Super Duty

My 2011 4.6L Tundra was getting it done towing ~7000 pounds TH on the flat lands. We are planning on many mountain trips after I retire. After reading many post here on the gas vs diesel debate, I knew what I needed to do. And that was to upgrade to increase my margin of safety.

Now, for the truck. Its a 2012 F-250 Super Duty Lariat with 6.7L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel. This is my first non gasser.

Look forward to the first tow regardless of mountains or plains. I can sleep better tonight for sure

  • Congrats. HD style pickups sure help when it comes to pulling.
  • Re the 'next he'll get a bigger trailer' post...been there/done that
    1.) had v6 Tacoma...bought 19' trailer
2.) didn't like the way the truck handled the trailer...bought v8 tundra
3.) now that I had the tundra, bought bigger trailer

(actually, on second identical tundra...space aliens came down and forced me into a crash with the first tundra)

  • Have the same truck as what OP had before trading up...pulling a bit less weight than he did...currently have a good match between truck and trailer, but would not want to pull much heavier (although, technically, I have over a ton of capacity left) and, while I'm good in the 'texas hill country' when we travel in that area, would not look forward to using this setup through serious grades...can understand why OP would upgrade the TV even while the 'towed' unit is the same...have enough for what we do now, but would probably be down on power if we operated in the mountains based on experience in the 'hills'...there are times when power is needed, right now! and from now on OP will have it!

(BTW...I could buy a really big tree if anyone wants to put a diesel pickup under it!)

    Congrats...

My best advice...Make a mental note..everytime you put fuel in verify before pulling the pump handle that you have the diesel pump in your hand. Don't just go by the green plastic handle. There are a few states that don't do the the color coding. Or maybe the station messed up? And some states have all kinds of different diesel fuel (winter blend, bio mixed in etc)

which makes it strange for me being in a state that has 1 type just about anywhere I go in the state and the handle is green.
  • Congratulations on your new truck! Welcome to the cult! Details on secret handshake to be sent later.
