    I’m not sure I could get my hitch open without using the jacks to take pressure off the hitch.
  • I don't think I would hang around trying to open the gate and release the hitch. Let the insurance company deal with it.

    If the fire was towards the rear of the trailer I would probably try to get the truck unhooked but otherwise I agree in letting the insurance company deal with it.
  • I would un-latch the hitch and floor it. You would have to get a new bed, but not a new truck, and at least you could drive home.
  • This is what happens when you drive like a house afire....
