I finally made the change

After several years of towing with a 1/2 ton I finally made the change to a 3/4 ton. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, campers in the shop for a couple minor repairs. My last truck was a 2015 Max Tow GMC, pulled my 9000lb trailer great but I was getting pushed around more than I wanted. My new truck is a 2015 RAM 2500 4X4 Laramie with the Cummins. All the Dodge haters please don't bash and ruin my excitement. Never owned a diesel, except for my farm tractor. I am very impressed by the power. Rides good, mileage is better than my old truck. I can't wait to get the trailer behind it.
Let me try the pic again

Amazing all the new RAM's on here, not much action form the other two. I can honestly see why, RAM has put out a truck that simply does the job well right out of the box.

I thinks it's a difference in personalities. Ford certainly sells a lot of trucks. I didn't come on here and start a thread about getting a new truck last year as I'm sure many others haven't. The Ram mafia likes to share more pics and updates compared to the other crowds.

  • How did it get those tires on it? Was it a used truck? Chris
  • A big congrats!! Beautiful truck. Enjoy the the excitement. Biggest challenge will be wiping the silly grin off your face when you get to the campground after towing the camper with that diesel! Take care of it, and it will take care of you.
  • Nice truck! I did the same last summer. New trailer and all the stuff we bring with us now that we have child #2 brought me over the payload to my beloved Tundra. Jumped up to a Ram with the Cummins and am very happy. Mileage towing and empty is substantially better, which wasn't expected!
  • We have 15 3500 Laramie and love it. Drives really nice. Lots of bells and whistles. Driving empty the DEF last for ever. Towing it uses more. I just go to WM and buy a 2.5 gal box of Peak Blue DEF when it get to 1/2 or below.

A lot to learn about them. The owners manuals are available online. I have the keyless entry and like that. Set up my Uconnect account and can start it remotely with smart phone.

Setting up EVIC custom gauges and what is displayed in the four corners is your choice. I have Average MPG in top left, Trip counter A in the top right, Distance to empty in the bottom right, and ITBC in the lower left.

I changed the lower virtual gauge to Exhaust Braking after this photo.

    Enjoy your new ride. Chris

  • Made similar upgrade almost two years ago, and haven't looked back once! We really like the power and towing stability that the RAM 2500 Cummins combination provides.
  • Just the difference in torque and horsepower while pulling will put a smile on your face. Towed with gas engines for quite a few years and yes they can do it but once I pulled with a diesel there was no going back. Enjoy!
  • Congrats and enjoy the new ride. I think the diesel is a good long term investment. Yes you may have paid more now, but your mileage will be better and your resale value will remain higher. Happy towing!
