Well my beloved 2011 GMC had the high pressure fuel pump grenade sending metal into the injectors... A very expensive repair for a truck with 110k miles on it.I had really wanted to wait another year prior to buying a new truck but I think it is gonna be trade in time and let the dealer deal with fixing the 2011- I had also wanted to at least drive a new Ford and Ram before deciding what to get. Amazing that a high pressure fuel pump can go bad and basically destroy a motor!!! Now it just depends on what they offer me...

Gosh, that's Not good and unusual...Just asking, was the truck modded, chipped or programmed?

I have to wonder how many of these Fords ,and Gm's are having this same issue. Its unfortunate you had this problem it seems to be an all to common problem, and expensive to repair.If I may ask was it water in the fuel problem creating rust that caused the failure. That seems to be one of the culprits.

The Cummins still uses the CP3 unit...just something to consider.

Not really all that unusual. Lots of discussion about grenading CP4 on the Dmax forum. Sucks you were only 10K mi beyond warranty but I seem to hear a lot of them taking a dump right around the 110K mi mark. I generally keep my trucks a long time but my 2012 Dmax will be sold before I hit 100K mi because of these stories. Wont buy another CP4 truck that is for sure.

I think I would be sick to my stomach if I had a $5k pled repair bill on a truck that only had 110k on it. One of the reasons why I went the route I did after having multiple friends and family get stuck with a large repair bill due to the CP4 pump. Just as IdaD stated, Cummins still uses the CP3 pump and would not ruin the whole engine and fuel system if it fails.

Sounds like a similar deal I got with my head gaskets on my 5500 which was out of warranty. I would have been really surprised if Gm had not helped you out. So are you getting a '16 or a hold over '15?

I am glad GM is going to help you out. Your going to be over the moon with the new truck. I traded a 12 for my 15.5 Denali, everything and more I could ever want in a truck!

Glad they stepped up for you. I don't know that I'd be so anxious to jump into another CP4 but that's just me. Most of them are probably fine and at least with GM you have better odds on your warranty.

Awesome, glad they stepped up to the plate for you. Its unfortunate that you have to come out of pocket for some of it, but you should easily recoup your investment in the truck with higher trade in value.

Hope you enjoy the new truck, even only 4 or 5 years worth of new technology will be a huge upgrade.

The failure was the CP4 high pressure fuel pump which has a much less than stellar reputation for reliability. It is highly unlikely that the failure was caused by water in the fuel which is exactly why GM is paying for most of the repair.
