The turbo failed on my Duramax when it was 5,000 miles out of warranty. Estimated cost to repair was $3,500. I did appeal to GM. Explained how I had been buying GM products since forever. They said 'no'. On the other hand, what should I have expected from a company that chose to kill off Pontiac and keep Buick.
Unless the turbo going out was a known issue on the engine, this is not a fair comparison.
I agree, contacting GM is worth a try.
As far as trying to file a claim with insurance, I'd feel bad about doing that unless the failure was in fact caused by bad fuel. If it is because the pump is a bad design, insurance should not pay.
